Symptoms of Teen Age Drug Abuse

My mom never knew when I was high. When I’d have the munchies she was happy that I was eating. When I was laughing for no good reason she thought I had a great sense of humor and when I was always sleepy, she scheduled me for a physical. After awhile, I just figured she was in denial and it made me feel worse than ever - like she really wasn’t watching out for me.
pot
Those are the words of Adam, a senior in high school who, fortunately, was able to motivate himself to quit smoking pot as a freshman in order to get on the football team.

In his case, he was right. His mother admits to being suspicious but didn’t want to “insult” him with her lack of trust. She knows now, as all teens know, there is just too much material available on the internet and through anti teen age drug abuse campaigns for parents to remain clueless for long.
It’s fortunate for Adam that his interest in football exceeded his interest in drugs.

If you happen to be a parent who is totally without a clue, a website known as Parents: The Anti-drug has a good review of how the various drugs - ecstasy, crack, pot, uppers and downers - will play out in your teen’s behavior. Please study it carefully and please, go ahead and insult your kids and investigate any suspicions that you might have.

I knew she trusted me and I took advantage of it. I’m sorry for that now. But, parents have got to quit trying to be a friend and really need to just get tough.

Those are strong words from a teenager. It’s a shame too many of today’s parents need to hear them.
