Technolgy Aids in Fight Against Teen Age Drug Abuse

Teenagers have a rather ridiculous perception of what their privacy rights are, and the situation is not helped by interfering judges and progressive academics who seem hell bent sometimes to relieve a parent of all their say in how their teen is raised.

Some parents, rightfully so, aren’t buying it. Some parents have been employing technology to make sure teens who demand trust, actually deserve it.

“Paige White was surprised when her parents figured out soon after she started driving last year that she’d gone 9 miles to a party, not 4 miles to the friend’s house she’d told them she was visiting. It seemed to her almost as if her car was bugged.

It was.

Paige’s parents had installed a device in their daughter’s SUV that can tell them not only how far she’s driven, but how fast and whether she’s made any sudden stops or hard turns.

“I was kind of mad because I felt it was an invasion of my privacy,” said the Los Gatos resident, now 17.

New technology allows parents to go online and locate on a map exactly where their teenagers are. Another service emails the parents if the installed tracking device indicates the teen is driving recklessly or has left a designated geographic area.

It has nothing to do with invading a teen’s privacy but everything to do with keeping the teen alive. With teen age drug abuse a constant presence in a teens environment, when irresponsible parents allow their kids to drink, a parent has little choice but to use all the effective tools available to ensure their teens safety.
